Not feeling it.

It's hard to realize that Christmas is only a few weeks away. The weather here has been unreal. It was 58 here yesterday. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that I just haven't been able to get into the holiday spirit.
I have only 3 gifts so far. One for K9, one for J15 and one for my mother. I want to get V a chainsaw but I need to do some research and get some recommendations first. I know it is something he will use around the property and has been looking at for a while. He has a little electric one that we used in town but we've got much bigger trees and definitely not enough extension cords to reach to some of the trees that need cut here.
I do have some home canned goods that I can use for gifts (peach salsa, pear chutney, cranberry mustard) probably for the nieces and nephews. I may make some biscotti as well and I usually give them coffee or teas.
I've been laid up for a few days. I pulled some muscles in my back over the weekend and then they were further aggravated when I came down with a stomach bug on Monday (I ended up leaving work early). Let me tell you, it's a terrible thing to realize that you need to get to the bathroom now and have a catch in your back so you can't even breathe much less move. My stomach is feeling much better and my back is slowly healing. I've been taking lots of ibuprofen and me and the heating pad have been close friends. I did make it back to work today and oh my it was busy!!
But regardless of health and gifts, the season keeps creeping up. I'm having difficulty getting into the swing of things. I even put some holiday music on my ipod but can't stand to listen to even some of my old favorites. Maybe when we put up the tree and do some more decorating I'll feel more into it- maybe.
I have been pleased that the boys aren't making excessive demands on their lists, and J15 is simply asking for fatigues and boots (she wants clothes to work outside in). V just wants trains (no surprise there- but that's probably not what he's getting). He has asked me several times what I want. I honestly don't know. Last year he got me a pressure canner that I really wanted. I got my land this year, that is gift enough for me. Maybe some books...
I've also been a bit preoccupied with this possible promotion. I've got an interview next Tuesday and a candidate forum on the 16th where staff members can ask me questions. Eek. V still hasn't heard anything about his job possibility and I think he's getting a bit discouraged. sigh.

  1. nah me either, no snow, we still have patches of green stuff. Dogs are still getting ticks. We will get the tree next weekend-then maybe I will feel it

  2. I just looked at the forecast for home and it looks Christmasy as heck. Unfortunately, I'm down in S.Carolina, and 67 is NOT doing it!
Hope you're feeling better! Not good, coming down with a bug and so much to do!
    Take care!

  3. All I can say is I am right there with you, it was in the 80s here yesterday, I have not bought even one gift yet and the idea of shopping does not even remotely apeal to me. My 18 year old has decided to decorate the house and I am happy to have him do it. I keep thinking it will hit me soon and I will kick into overdrive, but what if it doesn't? Guess then I will have to fake it.

  4. Judy, I'm glad to hear your better. I can visualize you creeping to the bathroom, holding tight and praying your gonna make it! oh dear! I'm not fully in the Christmas mode either. I am trying to get there 100% but so far I'm about 70% there. No tree up and no house inside decorations up. I am lucky to have the few gifts I do have. Brien still hasn't heard if he got his job either. We are all nervous and anxious. ho hum...I hope V hears soon and that all your interviews go well...Merry Christmas! ...debbie

  5. Dear Judy, I hope you feel better very soon! I too am having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit this year and have started to get some decorations out to help me to do so more quickly. Big hugs to you. Try to get some rest, please! xx

  6. I hope your back starts feeling better soon! My hubby loves his chainsaw but it's an expensive one since it's a huskavarna. Several other brands of chainsaw have been gone through around the ranch here though while his is still kicking (and taking quite a licking). He says Stihl is pretty good too and recommends craftsman for the cheaper ones.

  7. Sorry to heat about your back & not feeling well Judy. The Christmas spirit will come. I have started a new thing just for myself. I call it my 20 minutes. It is time to myself. I have been taking walks or just sitting in silence. It really helps to clear my head. Sometimes we get so busy that we lose ourselves & the spirit doesn't have space to keep us grounded. I plan on increasing the time eventually, but right now I feel like 20 minutes is all I have :-).
    Take care

  8. Hi Judy,

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. Good luck with the job interview.

It snowed in Chicago last night - just a dusting and it is cold. The cold weather does help with the holiday feeling - makes me want to bake!

I absolutely hate to shop and have essentially dropped off of the consumer grid so everyone on my holiday list is getting homemade gifts this year. Salsas, pear butter and I'm trying homemade lip balm this year.

  10. I am so not into the Christmas spirit - although I've made a bunch of gifts and I think I pretty well have the kids done - lots of little things - they aren't asking for anything big, whcih is good:) Good luck with the jobs for you and V!

  11. Coming from a family of loggers that ran a sawmill I'd have to recommend a Stihl. All the men in my family swear by them. Also, we have friends that have a sawmill and that's all they use, too.
My husband has had his for years now and it's still going strong...and he's pretty rough on things.
Oh, and I'm with you on the Christmas mood. I'm just not feeling it either.
