Grocery store madness

I just had to share this one.
We did some grocery shopping after V picked me up from work this afternoon. They are having a great 2 week sale with coupons for things we actually use (flour, sugar, brown sugar and a great deal on blueberries that will go into the freezer). We decided to pick up some chicken for dinner as nothing had been thawed (oops). So... we picked up a package of the organic "smart chicken". You know, the kind that's minimally processed, no added water, raised without antibiotics and all that good stuff. But you know what's funny? Go on, guess....
On the package was one of those pull off coupons: $1.00 off this package of chicken if you buy a package of Velveeta shells and cheese.
Ok...let me get this straight... I'm spending big bucks to get the organic, no added crap chicken and they seem to think I'm going to buy a package of one of the most processed foods around to save a dollar.
What's wrong with this marketing picture???

  3. Clink- yes, sad but true. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry.
Lisa- the rain was nice- I almost wish we had gotten more. We only had .3 inches and could have used a bit more.
    Erin- YUP!
I presented the package of chicken to J16 and asked her to identify what was wrong. She picked up on the velveeta coupon immediately. It is just wrong on so many levels.

  4. As Clink said, it's sad and funny at the same time. Also, unfortunately, a sign that big business still doesn't "get" it!

  5. Hummmmm...that is very weird. The Velveta Mac n Cheese is sooooo salty - it's hard to eat! I haven't had any of it for AGES! Perhaps the Mac n Cheese is about to expire so they thought it would be a good way to get it off the shelf in a hurry since kids love it....debbie

  6. This is bizarre but I saw the very same chicken and bought two of them to smoke for sandwiches. Only when I got to the checkout did I see that I had to buy macs and cheese to get the coupon. I almost told the guy I didn't want them anymore.
