Free seeds???

And a giveaway!!
I recently received an email from Chelsea at Hometown Seeds. They are a newer online seed source and she asked me if I would post a link to their site. In return for this, she will send me a free pack of Survival Seeds, a specially designed pack of 16 varieties of seeds to keep in stock for emergencies. Not that I'm falling for the panic about the end of the world in 2012 (I haven't even seen the movie!) but you never know.
I'm good on seeds at the moment so I thought I'd do my first giveaway ever and give one lucky reader my free seeds.
I've done a little bit of checking on this company and for those of you who are heirloom purists, this company is probably not for you. They sell a variety of open pollinated and hybrid seeds. I'm personally not that much of a purist so it doesn't really bother me- I think they both have their uses. The survival seeds are supposedly all open pollinated varieties that you can save seeds from if needed.
If you're interested in being in the mix to win leave a comment on this post by midnight December 12th and I'll choose a lucky winner at random.

  2. Oh, throw my name in the pot as well!! I also am not a heirloom purist (I actually like some hybrids for their great yields).

  5. Count me in too! And hybrid seeds definitely have their merits, especially "in emergencies" where you may not want the fussiness of heirlooms, lol!

  8. I try to grow only heirlooms, so the survival mix would work for me.
I'll have to check their web site - I'm always on the lookout for new seed sources! :-)

  11. I'm aware of the recent post on the Oklahoma Prepper's network, claiming that this company sells all GMO or hybrid seeds. I'm still checking into this and have an email in to the company.
I did find it interesting that in the post on OPN, he didn't actually post the text of Chelsea's reply. That makes me wonder what she really said. I find it hard to believe that they are actually trying to 'pull one over' on homesteaders and preppers.
I'll keep you all posted on what I find out.

  12. I didn't say any one at all was trying to pul one over on any one. There are many homesteader loving companies out here that sell GMO's as well. And I don't buy from hem. I just decided to pass on this offer. And I don't thick the OPN post was trying to as well. It wasn't just that post that decided for me.

And I am not saying you shouldn't buy or give away their seeds. I think I need more coffee, feeling a little defensive this morning.

  13. I'd love some seeds! I'm not very good at storing them from year to year - so a good pack of the basics would be great.

  14. Sign me up! I love new varieties! (And thanks for doing the homework for us about GMOs. A misinterpretation or rumor can spread so fast on the Internet!)
