Have you noticed...

... that the news lately has been really, really depressing.  I just want a little bit of good news.  A few tidbits of happiness and positive outlooks.
I'm not asking for much... just a day of positive news:  A day without people killing each other for stupid reasons; a day without hate, prejudice or war; a day where people don't feel that their political or religious beliefs give them the right to persecute others or tell others how to live their lives.  I just want a day (or even better a lifetime of days) where people respect and value each other as humans.  Oh, and where they respect and value the world around them, as well.
Is that really too much to wish for...  respect for everyone, regardless of age, gender, abilities, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religious beliefs, nationality or the color of their skin?

And I guess while I'm wishing for the impossible, I'll wish for everyone to have access to affordable healthcare; healthful, affordable, real food; clean water; decent shelter and the means to support themselves with meaningful activities and/or work.

What do you wish for?

  1. AMEN. It is a sad time we are living in right now.

I'm sure that most of us wish for the same things. It may seem impossible. Good things are always happening, we just don't always hear about them.

I know that this wish is possible, maybe not in this lifetime. I believe that when it is time we will live in a time when all is as wonderful as we'd like it to be. I believe that Jesus will come and then everything will be as it should be. Beautiful beyond description.

For now we can live Christian lives, making things around us better and helping others. Praying for things to be better in the world so those who are suffering will be strengthened and provided for. :)

Jesus loves all of us. And we will see that even better when he comes.

I hope I made sense. Take care, Janet W

    1. Oh, I know good things are happening. But, as my husband says "If it Bleeds, it Leads". Too bad we don't get more of the positive stuff, though.

  2. I just got back from vacation and was very THANKFUL my computer died on the 3rd day. No news IS good news. I know we're supposed to keep informed, but frankly-the ignorance WAS bliss..............

    1. That must have been lovely. I do try to keep informed but sometimes it's too much.

  4. Yep, definitely a week to try and stay away from the news, but it's hard. Thank goodness for the freaky weather (I guess, though even that makes me worry, sigh). But can you imagine if it was cold and nasty and we were all stuck indoors? Gardening is definitely good therapy, so much to look forward to this time of year.

    1. Yeah, this week in particular has just been awful. So much tragedy out there and so many people spewing hateful garbage. Ugh.

  6. I wish the powers-that-be that govern the news media would feel that good news was worthy of being broadcast also. There are good people and good things happening in our world. We are being fed nothing but awful, gory, sensationalized coverage of every atrocious event which does nothing but bring on depression and a sense of helplessness. We, personally, never listen to news on TV or radio and keep up on current affairs with select sites on the Internet only to the extent of being aware of what's going on. It does no one any good to be bombarded with negative vibrations 24/7. What is the purpose of that? If we all start living our lives in the very best way we can right at home, I believe it can have a ripple effect and spread to others.

    1. About the only TV news we watch is on PBS except for the local news. I do check the news online regularly but it's hard to avoid those sensational stories.

  7. Oh, Judy, I feel the same way. All the negative news we are subjected to day in and out, just eats away at you slowly. I try to avoid it too, but every where you go (gym, restaurant, Dr office), they stream some news channel. I agree with your commentor: we are living through some pretty dark times.

    1. Yes, dark, dark times indeed. All that bad, sad news just brings you down. There are a few positive stories but they are generally so buried that they're hard to find.

  10. Boy, do I agree. Times are tough, and people are going through so much.
I have always said if someone would write a newspaper of just good news or start a news show of just good news, it would be a hit. Hmmmmm - there's a thought.
We all need a lift, and I think this would be a wonderful idea.
Maybe someone could at least start a blog of good news!
    God bless,
    Cheryl

    1. I always say that if I ever win the lottery I'm going to sponsor a news program with only good news. Of course, in order to win the lottery I'd have to actually play it....

    2. (One of) my home county did this very thing: Here is the link if someone out there is interested in starting their own. I am not always satisfied with what they chose to blog about (sadly, this is a county of old families and politics), but it's definitely a start.

  11. Me too, Judy. But I'm afraid it's not going to get much better with the soaring prices of food and gas...people will get depressed and start killing and committing suicide...There is a lot of Good News out there - they just don't want to print it. I told Bob we need a channel that has nothing but good news. Stuff about kids, schools, good things people are doing for other people...he said it wouldn't sell...but agreed it would be great...I'd watch!! Wouldn't you?? ...debbie

    1. At least our local paper does a school page every week where they highlight accomplishments of the students from the local schools. They try to focus on some of the good stuff but it usually seems that it's outweighed by the bad.

  12. Hi Judy,

My 2012 resolution was to call out prejudice where I see it in my personal life. So if a co-worker or acquaintance makes a racially charged comment, even just off the cuff, I [politely] say something like, "oh, that has been my experience."

  14. And I try to keep my perpsective postive, even if others choose not too. As the old song goes-
blow up your tv, throw away the paper
move to the country, build you a home...

    1. All great things to desire. I, too wait for people to realize that they CAN make a difference, both in the lives of others and in their own.
