Second try

Different brand.

I kind of like this one, although the other has a fun, 'modern' look (if chicken feed bags can be modern!)
Justine is destined to get the first one and this one is bound for one of V's cousins who saw the first on facebook.  30 minutes from feed sack to tote bag.  I can probably get it down to a faster pace with practice.  But it has been good to get back to the sewing machine after avoiding it all summer.

    1. Or, better yet, make the pattern and sell it!

    2. Pattern.....

um, there isn't one. They're really pretty easy. Although the plastic-y stuff is a bit slippery to work with.

Next one I make, I'll take photos and post a tutorial.

  2. I love these! Please make a tutorial! They changed the sacks that I buy from paper (good for sheet mulching) to plastic and I didn't know what to do with them. Now I know!

    1. I'll definitely do a tutorial. But, yeah, I've just been kind of stockpiling these bags because I didn't quite have the heart to throw them away but wasn't really sure what to do with them.

I guess I know what people are getting for the holidays this year.

  3. How does your sewing needle do with the plastic? Do you use a special one? They are so neat!!

    1. I'm just using the needle I had in there. It seems to do fine. It makes a little popping noise and I thought about trying a ball point needle. But this needle is old so I'm not too concerned about it. I was more concerned using my rotary cutter on it but it seems to go right through- easier than some fabric!

    1. The tan one in the previous post is Country Lane. It's the store brand from our local feed store. The one above is Nutrena. I think I've got another variety out there from another feed store but I don't remember what it is.

  5. I made some of these for Christmas. I have saved over 50 bags since then, they are everywhere, but I haven't had time to make more!
Yours looks great! I bought nylon strapping for the handles but once that's all gone I'm going to make handles from the bag itself it will be a lot cheaper ☺
