Let's try this

Okay.  I must say, I hate, hate, hate the new word verification that blogger has.  It is just too awful and I feel bad subjecting commenters to it.  So, I'm going to try this without verification.  But I've had some spam sneaking through in the past, even with verification so I'll turn it back on if it gets too bad.
Please let me know if I actually got it off.  Blogger sure doesn't make it easy with the new interface.  And I noticed that the information on word verification is now missing from their help site.  Hmm....

    1. I understand why blogger is doing this but really- do they have to make it so difficult?

  2. I already turned mine off... I've had one spam so far, but I think it was spam sent from an actual human because they did make reference to my post before adding their spammy link. Some people say that spammers usually hit older posts, so if you turn moderation on for posts older than a few weeks old you can catch most of it. Haven't tried it yet, but we'll see...

    1. I've gotten a few of those. I think they did some mention of the post and then went into something for cigarettes... really??

  4. I turned mine off too but I reduced the chances of getting spam mail by also turning on comment moderation for posts older than five days. Since 99% of my comments occur within 5 days of the post, I figured it wouldn't make anyone not comment and if a spam does get through, it will always be on a current post and easier to track down and delete.

    1. I've always had moderation for comments on posts older than a week. Mostly because I want some sort of alert if people comment on old posts.

  6. I'm thinking (hoping, anyway) that Blogger has to be working on changing this "new" Word Verification dealie they've had going. Some of them are just simply impossible to decipher and very frustrating at best. It's been one heckuva mess. Arrrrgh!

    1. I actually had one that was in (I think) hebrew. At least it wasn't any kind of western alphabet. And, um... I can't type that.
at least they do have the 'redo' button to get different words if you get something totally impossible.
But, sadly, I don't have any hope that Blogger is going to make it easier.

  8. Yep, I hate it too! Turned it off three days ago and I do not see any problems. For me, if I have to use the verification to make a comment on a Blog, It seem to take longer then the Comment! And who can read the things, let a lone type them in?
