I want you to know that I really, really appreciate the three quarters of an inch of rain we got this morning about 3:30 am. I am very grateful because, as you know, we desperately need rain.
However, I did want to point out that we could have easily done without the 65 mph winds that accompanied it. Those winds broke off some heavily laden pepper branches, toppled a few tomatoes and blew down a few tree branches.
Just wanted you to know.
Thank you for your consideration.
The Management
The wind with storms is kinda like damaging lightning. Do we REALLY need it? Nice, gentle, soaking rain coming straight down (for a few hours, please) would be much appreciated, right?
ReplyDeleteHope you didn't lose too much produce or have too much damage to the trees. Bummer.
We only lost a few small branches but there were big branches down in town (I saw one probably 8 inches in diameter down) But then I wonder how much the trees have been weakened by the drought.
DeleteAs for produce, I picked up lots of little green paste tomatoes that seem to have blown off and I froze 2 quarts of diced peppers this evening. Otherwise not too bad. The downed tomatoes will stay down- I'd probably do more damage trying to pull them back up.
OH man, our laden pepper plants were what I worried about in the middle of the night too, but they mostly came through okay. I saw lots of branches down here too on my way into work. Quite a line of storms!
ReplyDeleteOurs were mostly OK but about half of one of the bell peppers went down. And, of course, this is the first year I've had any number of peppers on it. I have usually had poor luck with bell peppers- big plants but few peppers. This year, I've finally got peppers.
DeleteOh no... I hope you don't have too much damage to the trees and that your garden recovers!
ReplyDeleteIt was a really impressive storm. Of course, now I've been up since shortly after 3am and am fading fast.
DeleteWe haven't had any wind or rain but some of my pepper plants have branches breaking off - probably due to the weight of the peppers. Guess you can keep your rain - we would have enjoyed it here but like what happened to you, we would suffer losses if we got too much wind. Here's hoping that Mother Nature picks up her mail real soon!!
ReplyDeleteMine were pretty stressed from the weight of the peppers and the wind pushed them over the edge. Fortunately I didn't lose too many.
DeleteSounds like some of our "dry storms" :(
ReplyDeleteUgh. I can't imagine getting the wind but no rain to make up for it. I hope you get some relief soon.
DeleteThe winds along with the rains this summer have been unbelievable!! There are trees down here EVERYWHERE. In our yard alone, we've lost 4 trees. Kinda scares me with the high wind. Not sure why....debbie (sorry about your plants and trees :( )
ReplyDeleteI hope your message gets through (and gets read). I feel like running a flag up a verrrry tall pole just to let Ma Nature know we're down here. Rain to the north, rain to the south. Blech. Glad you were able to freeze the casualties.
