Today, Justine and I completed the Iowa Games Mud Run. Whew! What a challenge. Mother nature has been 'helping' on the course and there was more mud than expected. In fact, they had to alter the course because some areas were under too much water to be safe to have people run through.
So we did about 3 miles in mostly shin deep mud or knee deep water. Only having the mud two to three inches deep was heavenly.
I'll be honest, we both struggled. But, we weren't the only ones struggling. It was tough going out there.
Here are a few photos of the day. And, yes, I'm posting photos that are not at all flattering.
Prior to the run, we are clean and happy.
Justine donned her muddy paint, ready to tackle the world.
And we're off!
Coming up on the finish.... This is some of the shallow mud!
We haven't even had water yet- why are you taking our photo? I look like I really want to kill someone!
Finally... happy to take off the shoes! We both made it through with our shoes intact. We saw many, many abandoned shoes along the way. We wondered at the race start why so many people were running barefoot... now we know! Next time- barefoot it is!! Shoes become a liability in knee deep muck.
But like they say... What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. One month to go before zombie race!
What a cool & "interesting" way to run! I totally forgot about the Zombie Run! Can't wait for YOU to run it & see! (notice I'm comfy here in the A/C on the computer). Good luck!
ReplyDeleteaccording to others who have run this race before. This was the hardest year they have run, simply because all the rain we've had made the entire course muddy, not just the obstacles.
DeleteSadly, this showed us just how much work we have before we run in Minnesota. But after this, I think I can do anything.
You are both so much braver than me! Well done.
ReplyDeleteI bet you could do it if you tried! Come along next year!!!
DeleteWow that looks like fun!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe had a love/hate relationship going on. It was probably one of the hardest, most exhausting things I've done. Not always fun at the time (especially not when you slip and fall) but overall, a great experience. Good enough that we want to do it again.
DeleteYou say the photos are not flattering, but I think they are stupendously fantastic! You go, Girl! As hard (and holy cow, yucky-mucky) as it may have been, I'll bet you feel great that you did it!
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you. We do feel rather accomplished, although I discovered that I don't have the stamina I thought I did. Running on trails with the occasional muddy patch is one thing- three miles of mud is quite another.
DeleteYou two are awesome! I can't imagine running through mud. Frankly, I can't imagine me running, period. Unless something fearsome was chasing me....zombies, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteCongrats and good for you!
