Winners and babbling

Ok... it's after the new year so I thought I'd better figure out who were the winners of my giveaway.  I trotted over to Random.org and had them generate a couple of numbers. So... the winning numbers were 14 and 17.
So....  That means the winners are Jenna Gayle and 2 Tramps.  So, you two please email me your mailing address to fullfreezer at gmail (dot) com and I'll try to get those packages into the mail this week while I'm off.

Today was the first real day of my vacation.   Oh, I was off on Sunday and yesterday but those were play days.  New Year's day we didn't do much.  We actually spent a lot of time looking for a folder that V has misplaced.  The children have been clamoring for a family D&D game and V couldn't find his Dungeon Master's folder with all his maps and stuff in it (the lost was finally found today in the bottom of a box of books that we hadn't unpacked yet).  But the search got us to tidy up and do a bit of sorting and purging of stuff we don't need yesterday and today.  As rooms have been finished, we have been slowly unpacking books and such and we're finally down to only 2 boxes left and I believe those are V's collection of 'Presidential Papers' that he inherited from one of his uncles.  Not anything I'd probably read but it is a complete set for what it is and most likely has some value.
Last night, instead of D&D we played a family game of 'Kingmaker'.  It's a strategy board game about the War of the Roses.  We stayed up late and V finally won because my royal heir was killed by the plague after I had retired to Calais with him and 700 troops.  C'est la vie...

Today, I got busy on my to-do list.  We all slept in after a late game night and when I rolled out of bed at nearly 9 I made a triple batch of waffles for breakfast and to freeze.  I also did lots of laundry (We finally strong-armed J17 to clean her room and she had two hampers full of dirty clothes!), worked on a Victorian shirt (my next project), brought in another table for my sewing room from the shop where it has been stored and figured out how to rearrange that room so it is more user friendly.

Tomorrow, the children go back to school.  I've got some errands to run and then I hope to finish the shirt I'm making for V.  That finished, I'm going to rip apart the sewing room and rearrange.  Also on my list for the week, reorganizing the pantry, sorting seeds and seed starting stuff, perusing seed catalogues and sorting through the piles of papers that have accumulated on my desk.  My desk is upstairs and tends to be a catch-all for all kind so stuff- not all mine!

Oops, gotta go check my chicken in the oven.  Have a great week...

  1. You sure seem to get a lot done in any given time, "Vacation" Lady! Hope you can squeeze some time in your week that is strictly for yourself. You work so hard you deserve it!

  2. Mama Pea- don't worry! I actually like sewing and that is 'me' time. I want to reorganize the room so I've got more table space and can set up my new serger. I'm itching to get it out but I don't have a place for it to live. So, all this is in preparation for play time. And we all know how painful it is to look through seed catalogues. I've got plenty of time for fun stuff... there are just a few necessities that are calling.

  6. Hmm D&D... my 13 yr old (and myself) were just introduced to the game by my bro-in-law and niece. She is excited and wants to get the books and play -but it would just be the 2 of us. The intro we had was pretty limited and seems very complex (or maybe that was the holiday beverages swirling in my head!)
    Is there a D&D lite !
BTW I am Rowyn Namfoodle a druid gnome :)

  7. 2 Tramps- I am enjoying my vacation immensely! You are very welcome. I'll try to get the packages in the mail as soon as I hear from Jenna Gayle.
Melissa E- I'm always busy on vacation. I don't do 'still' very well. But I am planning to find some time to read this week.
Debbie- it's a role playing game- pure imagination and role of the dice. We tend to get very silly with it but there are some players who take it all quite seriously.
Kris- or should I say Rowyn. Isn't it fun?! V and I played a lot when we were in college and introduced the children to it a few years ago. Justine has been hosting D&D parties over here with a bunch of her friends. I've got several characters but the one I play when we play as a family is Jo Mama. Since the lost folder is found we'll be playing on Saturday. Too much fun!

  8. Okay, I'm floored that you play D&D LOL! I never got into that but am well aware that it has quite a following. A game based on War of the Roses, however, sounds a bit intriguing... Sounds like you are making good use of your vacation days!

  9. Erin- you're shocked that we play D%D? I would think it would be a natural assumption for a family as twisted as ours LOL! Sadly, Kingmaker is no longer available/in pint- well, maybe on ebay, but it is fun. We've got several other 'bookshelf' board games. Before children, V and I used to get together with friends on a regular basis for game nights- of course, alcohol was usually involved at that age, but we had fun.

  11. Sorry 2 Tramps... I haven't had a chance to check blogs this week! Congrats to you, too!!! So exciting :)

I'm seriously jealous of you having a serger! I've been waiting on a decent priced refurbed one to go up for sale at the local fabric shop. One day!!!

  12. It looks great. I had a craft room for a brief stint but then my 19-year-old moved back in and now I have a grandbaby instead.

We are just getting back into D & D now that the boys are old enough to play. We got some of the updated books and are trying to learn the new version. It is a lot different than it once was. The boys got Magic decks, too. So we have our full-on geek on around here. Kingmaker sounds interesting. Have you ever played Settlers of Catan?

  13. Practical Parsimony- if sewing was work, I probably wouldn't do it. Ok. I'll admit, there have been a few times when it felt like work but usually it's fun.
Jenna- We picked up mine on deep discount before Christmas and it's even new. Of course, It will take me a while before I totally figure it out but oh, what an adventure!
Stephany- we play a mish-mash of the two with more of the old version. I refuse to use the little hex maps and figurines. Kingmaker was fun, it's one my hubby got while in college and used to play with his roommates. I haven't played the Settlers game- I may have to check it out. I'm hoping to do more family games to give the boys alternatives to video gaming. And there's nothing wrong with having your geek on!!
