So... Hard....

So hard to not plant seeds!  It was 51*F here this afternoon.  I SO want to get my hands in the dirt.  But, I have to learn patience.  Maybe next weekend I'll start my early stuff like cabbage.  Still earlier than on my planting calendar but I just can't stand it!!
What I really need to do is rig up a cold frame and plant some spinach or some other greens.  My poor little lettuce in the window box hasn't come up very well (it was ancient seed) so I may try replanting it.

We're supposed to get snow again tomorrow night so maybe that will help me curb the temptation to start seeds too early... or maybe not.

  1. Hi there,

It is so hard to wait when we want something, or want to do something, isn't? :)

The time will come my friend. Then later in the summer you will have a wonderful garden. :)

Stay warm. Enjoy Sunday and have a great week.

    Take care, Janet W

    1. It is so hard to wait. I know the time will come, it's just that this winter has been so bizarre that it's hard to know when is the right time to start things.

  2. Last year I planted my starters way to early. This year I keep chanting, "Not until after March 1st. Not until after March 1st." This weather has been kind of nice today. It's suppose to be really warm tomorrow. Not until after March 1st! lol

  3. We've had so little snow this year, and what we have had keeps melting because of our above normal temperatures. I was out by the gardens today and my pumpkin patch is completely devoid of snow and I truly could have worked the soil and planted something. It was very dry and friable, not muddy at all. Is this strange? You bet! In normal years, we can't even put anything out under a cold frame until sometime in April, at the earliest. (Even though the soil was workable, our temps are still too cold.)

    1. I was out at the garden today. Fortunately, it is still a bit wet. But... a cold frame would be possible. Or... I've got some straw bales that I plan to use as mulch anyway. I'm wondering about putting an old window over a bale square for a few things. Hmmm..... I'll have to think about that one.

  4. I'm right there with you! I've been slowly starting some tomatoes and peppers...literally about 4 seeds a week. It helps with the spring fever a bit and I figure, heck, if I get a few early veggies/fruits out of the deal, well then, even better!

    1. Oh, my. I KNOW it's too early for tomatoes and peppers. But cabbage and kale? Those may be possibilities.

  5. It is quite frustrating isn't it!! We were supposed to get an inch of snow last night but we didn't get a single snow flake. The daffodils continue to grow and bud. I love it, but when spring finally gets here there will be no spring flowers left. ...debbie

    1. I haven't even looked for the daffodils yet but it wouldn't surprise me. I'm worried about all the trees budding out.

  6. Me too....I've been looking around and thinking I could get some greens going. And my kale from last year has had a magnificent resurrection...I've been eating out of (tiny bits, sometimes) all winter...

Cabbages and Brussels sprouts...surely those could go in...and I haven't heard anything about any snow around these parts. It's gonna be 50 again today...and 60 on Wed and Thursday...

    1. My kale was doing really well until it was found by a wayward deer that demolished every plant. sigh... I'll need to put something over it if I want anything.

    1. We're supposed to get some rain/snow mix tonight so I'm hoping that will help. But it is so tempting.
