A little practice

Since it's been a while since I've made an interlace quilt I decided I'd better have a refresher before I start on the real thing.  So I've been practicing.  Behold:
A new potholder.  This one is a bit rough.  I didn't get it quite even.  Those small, tightly turned designs are always a challenge.  The wall quilt I'm going to start on this afternoon has much gentler curves and many more straight runs.  Thank goodness!
And now, I leave you with a scene from my living room yesterday afternoon:
All three children snuggled on the couch with books.  Ah, makes a Mom's heart glad!!

  1. Oooooh, that is lovely! How large is the wall quilt? I don't think I have enough patience to tackle something as complicated as that - and what a great picture of your kids!

    1. Susan- the center panel where the interlace will be is 15x32 inches. I'll be adding a few borders which I haven't finalized yet but I'm guessing the finished product will be about 25x42. And it will be able to be hung either horizontally or vertically.
Isn't it a great photo? I had to sneak up on them, K11 never wants his photo taken- especially not with a book!!

  2. Beautiful children! You must be so proud! And I'm loving your quilting! It's been so long since I've quilted anything. My grandmother taught me a little but I'm sure I never learned the proper quilting methods. Can't wait to see the rest! Thanks for sharing with us!

    Have a wonderful day!

    1. If you learned from your grandmother, you probably learned much more 'proper' techniques than I use, LOL!!

  3. THAT'S a PRACTICE piece??? I'd love to be able to do that! Very pretty indeed.

And just as nice are the kids reading books together.

    1. I had to remember what settings to use to do the applique. And there's a trick to getting the applique pieces to lay right. I have done this before but it's been probably 6 or 7 years.

    1. LOL! No seizures allowed!! The real quilt will have three different lines going. I got it mostly in place this afternoon. We'll see how far I get today.

    1. It really isn't as hard as you think. There are lots of places that offer classes. I kind of taught myself and THEN took a couple of classes, LOL!

  7. Debbie- I'll confess- It wasn't entirely voluntary. I had declared a 'no technology' afternoon but they did all choose to read and did choose to sit by each other. For siblings they are quite close and really do get along well. They have their moments but- they're siblings!
