Busy Weekend

It was a busy weekend here at Troll Bridge Farm. Tomatoes were picked and canned, squash were sauteed and devoured, lumber and decking materials were ordered....
K10 and I went to the farmer's market on Saturday morning- unfortunately, no dill- I asked several vendors- they don't have dill this year either. It is evidently just an off year in this area.
The Iowa City Farmer's Market
It's ranking near the top for the best market in the nation!!
About 130 vendors- on the lower level of the parking ramp so rain is no problem.
Mmm... herbed goat cheese
In a compostable container!
I13 selected his recipe... I love this cookbook.
And explored the joys of crockpot cooking.
He made Chicken Cacciatore in the crock pot. Got it started at lunch time so he could go swimming in the afternoon. Cooking in swim trunks, what fun!
I even tried out my new pie plate and made a cherry pie with some of last year's cherries from the freezer. Yum!
Tomorrow afternoon, the rest of the lumber to finish the basement and the deck will be delivered. Oh, what fun we will have....

  1. Boy, you all made short work of the cheese! lol Must have been pretty good!! I love to see a good cook in a bathing suit and I really like Chicken Cacciatore! Guess you all will be nice and busy building a new deck pretty soon!! Good luck!! ...debbie

  2. I loved opening this post and reading "Troll Bridge Farm" - it just made me smile and think of all that you have all accomplished over the past few months.

ANyway, the fair sounds fun :-) As does the thought of that cherry pie....

  3. I've had my eye on that book, good to know you like it!

  4. I like going to the IC farmer's market because it is nice to walk around without the sun beating down on you. I tend to linger a bit longer there than other farmer's markets.

  5. LOL, Debbie- they didn't fill the container! They weren't that generous. We had probably eaten half of the cheese we got. But it was tasty!!
Erin- I have and love all the cookbooks from the Mennonite Central Committee- I really like the More with Less Cookbook for general things but the seasonal book is great with very usable recipes.

  6. I love those compostable containers! Trader Joes do most of their organic produce in them now. Marvelous!

Glad you stopped in. I would love to hear from you.
