Ooo... Shiny

Beautiful, tempting things keep arriving in the mail!!
They're sitting there, in a lovely pile, trying to draw me into their pages.  But, NO!!  I will resist temptation. Seed catalogues are for AFTER the holidays. That's my rule.  They help get me through the dark of winter.  I'll start looking soon after the new year and place my orders in January or February.

But, I may sneak a peek at the Baker Creek catalogue that arrived today.  THAT is the ultimate in Garden Porn!!

  1. Haha too funny ....garden porn. I peeked at one already, but I think after the new year would be a good rule. Something to do in January :-)

  2. I got my Johnny's a little bit ago, but no Seed Savers yet... boo-urns. =( I know the minute I open them I'll try to abandon my simple garden plans for the spring. Hopefully an increasingly mobile baby will keep that in check!

  3. No, no, NO! I refuse to look at them yet. I don't really understand why the seed companies don't wait until after Jan. 1st to send them out. When they arrive now they stand a chance of getting thrown out with the multitude of Christmas catalogs. And who has time now to sit down and make out a seed order?? (A little cranky tonight, aren't I?)

  4. dr momi- yup. it's been garden porn around here for years. My DH dubbed it that- I think it was the look on my face when a new one arrived... oops...
Molly- hmm, I got my Seed Savers last week. Hopefully it will arrive soon for you. And as far as baby in the garden- that is what they make those baby corrals for!
Mama Pea- I agree, they should just wait until after the holidays. But, no, at my house, they will NEVER get recycled... tI have a special place for these. Of course, there are those people who live further south that can start PLANTING in March.

  5. Oooooh, seed catalogs! I actually got to go to Baker Creek's store in CA. Very fun.

But my seed drawer is full, full, full.

  6. I too love getting my seed catalogs in the mail, but now that I live so close to Territorial Seed I will probably just drive down to their store and pick all of mine out. I get to support a local company and all the seeds that they sell in their store have been successful in their local test gardens.

  7. Stephaneer- I'm so jealous. We drove by the Baker Creek extravaganza in Missouri but were on too much of a time crunch to be able to stop. And my seed tins are full as well, but I'll always order something new.
Wisegoat Acres- We live about an hour and a half away from Seed Savers in Decorah. That's too far to drive. But fortunately, our local grocery store has a seed rack of Seed Savers seeds in the produce section every year. I think that is pretty cool!!

  10. I just have Johnny's and Fedco so far, but I LOVE the Fedco cover this year ;) I actually ordered a bunch of stuff in the fall so I probably don't need to get much stuff this spring, but I'm happily reading them anyway!

  11. I got my first D. Landreth catalog yesterday and I could hardly drag myself away from it! One of the 5 oldest companies in the US, all US and heritage seeds - I am going to be an exclusive DL seed buyer! But I usually wait, too, until after the holidays to dream away the winter.

  12. That reminds me to update my new address or I won't get any beautiful catalogs this year! Aren't the front covers just amazing?

  13. Debbie- you bet!! I LOVE my garden porn!!
Akannie- Was it Totally Tomatoes? I've ordered from them before- they have a sister company called the Vermont Bean Seed Company where you can get all kinds of heirloom beans.
s- even if I don't order anything, they make me think of warmer days.
Susan- I've heard of them but never had a catalogue. Not that I NEED any more seed catalogues. I think I'm going to try to do more Seed Savers because they're local.
Linda- The covers are stunning! And Baker Creek has such luscious photos. Even Vernon was commenting that they can make radishes and peas look almost sexy!!

  14. Towel racks AND chair rail? You have been busy indeed LOL I am just finally catching up! I have only gotten 1 catalog so far, but that's a good thing since the "stack" of stuff to read is getting higher than the chair I read from :)
