Coasting

Riding the tail end of the week into the weekend.  Even though it has been a short week due to missing some work due to illness it has seemed like a long week.  A couple of my co-workers have had sick children and so we have been short staffed all around.  If everyone is healthy, tomorrow will be the first day that we are all there this week (well, we're still one staff down).
I've got tomatoes in the garden and tomatoes on the counter that I need to do something with.  There are still lots and lots of peppers and eggplant out there. sigh.  I'm actually getting tired of the neverending stream of vegetables, LOL!  I never thought I'd say that.
There are little radishes, kale and chard seedlings up in the greenhouse!  No lettuce up yet.  hmmm I've had trouble getting lettuce to germinate all year.  And I even have fresh seed in there.  Ok, it's seed I picked up a couple weeks ago on discount for $.05/pack when we were at Menards but it's newer than lots of the seeds I've got.  But I actually never got lettuce to germinate in the garden this year at all. Who knows.
Otherwise, I've got nothing.  We're heading out to dinner tomorrow night with a friend that V helped move over the summer so tomatoes will have to wait until Saturday.

  1. Take those tomatoes and rinse them off, dry them, put them in freezer containers and pop them in the freezer. Use them in soups and stews. It's a quick way to put them up and not waste them. If your weather was like ours we probably didn't have enough cool weather for lettuce. I hear what you're saying about being tired of it. I always felt that way this time of year too. I missed having a garden this year though.

    1. I even tried to start lettuce inside this spring but no dice. The spinach did well but bolted quickly.
I may freeze the tomatoes. I just need to rearrange the freezer so there's room.....

  2. Me too on the lettuce this year. Also the radishes. Strange. But I got lavender to grow and chives.. I usually kill those. Glad you are feeling better. It's a little early for flu season isn't it?

    1. Radishes I had, lettuce, who knows. It was a strange year for germination all around.
It may be early but there are lots of viruses going around. I think it has something to do with back to school.

  3. Germination this year was very wonky. Your lettuce might pop up when you're least expecting it. Glad you're feeling better - and let the tomatoes wait! Not having to fix dinner is a downright luxury!

    1. Not having to fix dinner is a luxury! Even more so when we weren't the ones paying. It was Fred's payback for moving help. Nothing fancy, we went to one of the oldest pizza places in town- the one that is consistently rated the best in the area. They have the guys in white hats throwing dough behind the counter so it's a bit of a floor show as well. And definitely tasty! The boys, of course, had to fend for themselves. Good thing they can do that.
